How to Get to Carleton University
Ottawa is located between Toronto and Montreal at the eastern edge of Ontario. The distance from Toronto is 500 km (311 mi.), and the distance from Montreal is 200 km (124 mi.).

Located just minutes south from the centre of Ottawa, Carleton University is easily accessible by car from any direction of the city.
Arrival by Air
Ottawa International Airport (YOW)
Delegates can fly directly to Ottawa from many international destinations as well as through connections in Vancouver (for those flying into Canada from the west), and Montreal and Toronto (for those flying into Canada from the east).
- Taxi fare from the Ottawa International Airport to Carleton University is approximately $25 CDN
- LRT access from the airport to Carleton will open in 2024.
Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (Montréal-Trudeau) (ADM)
For international travellers connecting through Montreal, we recommend flying from Montreal to Ottawa (45 minute flight). Be sure to reserve your flight in advance.
Other options:
- By car, Ottawa is 2 ½ hours from Montreal. Car rentals from the airport should be booked in advance.
- By airport shuttle (Orléans Express), Ottawa is 2 hours from Montreal; a return ticket is approximately $125 CDN. Buses depart from Montreal-Pierre Elliot International Airport, and stop at the Ottawa Via Rail station. Taxi fare from the Ottawa Via Rail station to Carleton University is approximately $15 CDN.
- By train (Via Rail), Ottawa is 2 hours from Montreal; a return ticket is $40–100 CDN. The nearest train station (Dorval) is 8 minutes from Montréal-Pierre Elliot International Airport by public transit. Taxi fare from the Ottawa Via Rail station to Carleton University is approximately $15 CDN.

Toronto Pearson International Airport (GTAA)
For international travellers connecting through Toronto, we recommend flying from Toronto to Ottawa (1 hour flight). Be sure to reserve your flight in advance.

- By car, Ottawa is approximately 5 hours from Toronto. Car rentals from the airport should be booked in advance.
- By train (Via Rail), Ottawa is approximately 4 ½ hours from Toronto; a return ticket costs $100–150 CDN. The train station (Toronto Union) is 25 minutes from Toronto Pearson International Airport by UP Express; a return ticket costs approximately $25 CDN. Taxi fare from the Ottawa Via Rail station to Carleton University is approximately $15 CDN.

Arrival by Car
- Hwy 416 connects Hwy 401 (interchange near Prescott, Ontario) to Hwy 417. Follow Hwy 416 to Hwy 417 (East). Follow Hwy 417 (the “Queensway”) and exit at Bronson Avenue. Follow Bronson Avenue south approximately 2 km (1 mi.). The campus entrance is on the right, at the intersection of Bronson Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.
- Highway 417 runs east/west through the centre of the City of Ottawa. Exit Highway 417 (also called the “Queensway”) at Bronson Avenue. Follow Bronson Avenue south approximately 2 km (1 mi.). The campus entrance is on the right, at the intersection of Bronson Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.
Arrival by Train or Bus
- The 15-minute taxi ride from the Ottawa (Via Rail) train station to Carleton University’s Residence Commons costs approximately $15 CDN.
OCTranspo‘s new Light Rail System: The O-Train
- The O-Train provides service to Carleton University from the transit stations at Bayview (Lebreton Flats) and Greenboro (South Keys) with stops at Carling and Confederation Heights.
